Anmerkung des Autors (innerhalb der Zeile) Les étoiles à Cumaná n’ont pas de scintillement au-dessus de 25°, souvent pas plus bas. Le scintillement au Zénith paraît provenir ou d’un refroidissement subit dans l’ air ou après de la pluye. Mais pour le plupart, les Vapeurs qui restent après la pluye sont, à l’aide de l’immense masse de lumière du soleil, de la lune et de la Voile lactée, parfaitement dissoutes. L’hygromètre indique rarement le scintillement. Il est à 59 ou 60° et les astres ont les lumières tranquilles des planètes. Ce n’est pas la masse d’humidité non dissoute qui en est la Cause, c’est la manière uniforme de laquelle cette masse est répandue et son manque de mouvement qui empêchent le scintillement.

Plaque de fer blanc de  Pouce carré: Flächenmaß (Frankreich), 12 Pouce carré entsprechen 87,93 cm212 pouces quarrés bien polie, de  Ligne: Längenmaß (Frankreich), 0,2 Ligne entsprechen 0,45 mm0.2. de lignes d’épaisseur. Les Thermomètres ayant sur le fer dans l’air … son maximum. Après 10′, il ne monta plus de 0,1 de degré sur le fer blanc. Anmerkung des Autors (innerhalb der Zeile) on ne peut rafraîchir l’eau des tropiques par évaporation qu’à  Réaumur: Temperaturmaß, 17,8 Réaumur entsprechen 22,25 °C17°,8 Réaumur,   Kommentar Ulrike Leitner

Therefore the supra-terrene intra-tropical air at the height of  Foot: Fuß (Großbritannien), 10.000 Foot entsprechen 3,05 km10000 feet is cooled down in latitude 72° […] only 8° […] From these principles the explication of the above-mentioned phænomena is clearly deduced For 1o. the superior strata of the atmosphere are obviously warmer than the lower, being occupied by the superior current, whose heat is gradually communicated to the lower strata […] 2do. The North Pacific Ocean is colder than the North Atlantic between the same parallels, because the superior current that passes over the North Pacific is entirely supra-marine, and for the same reason eastern Siberia is much colder than its more western tracts. But the current that passes over the eastern parts of the North Atlantic is in great measure supra-terrene, for it issues from Guinea, Senegambia, and a skirt of the great desert. So also the current that passes over the western parts of Siberia, being derived from Siam, Ava, and the more southern islands. But the current that passes over the eastern regions of North America is entirely supra-marine, as it originates on the Atlantic Ocean; whereas that which passes over the corresponding European tracts, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy, and the British islands, is entirely supra-terrene, arising from air super-incumbent on southern and northern Africa. These directions from the south to the N. N. West may easily be traced on a map, observing to allow from one to three points to the western direction. The 3d phaenomenon is due to the re-inforcement of the same cause. In the months of December, January, and February, the superior current is then more copious, as the intra-tropical air is is then more heated, and hence adds more to the weight of the northern air […] (Kirwan 1802, 385–386).

Remarque importante. Dans toutes les Observations citées dans mes manuscrits et faites depuis le 5 Juin jusqu’au 7 Novembre il faut déduire de l’Hygromètre de Deluc 5°,7 de sorte qu’au lieu de 50°, lisez 44°,3.Anmerkung des Autors (innerhalb der Zeile) non! non!! 10,5 = 100° donc déduisez  5⁄105  x 50 c’est-à-dire lisez 47°,7 Rectifications de l’Instrument faites très soigneusement pour le réduire dans l’eau, à 100 degrés.

Le Thermomètre, Cyanomètre, Baromètre n’exigeant telles que les Observations sont consignées dans ces manuscrits aucune Correction. Observez cependant que les Elasticités, Humidités … ne sont qu’apparentes et que ni les Baromètres ni les Hygromètres sont corrigés par la Température!
