H. macht die Bekanntschaft des Physikers und Astronomen François Arago, mit dem er bald enge Freundschaft schließt. Außer mit Arago hat H. sich nur mit Bonpland (mit diesem aber noch nicht während der amerikanischen Reise), mit Gay-Lussac und dem Physiker und Mathematiker Siméon-Denis Poisson geduzt (von Jugendfreunden und -bekannten sowie Familienmitgliedern abgesehen). H. wohnt in Paris: Rue de la vieille Estrapade n. 11 (B: 20.5.1809-Mai 1811).
