Zur Datierung: Die im vorliegenden Brief erwähnte dreibändige Physiologie végétale De Candolles erschien 1832. Eine Dresdenreise Kunths, wie sie im Brief erwähnt wird, ist durch ein Empfehlungsschreiben Humboldts für Kunth an den Dresdner Mediziner Carl Gustav Carus vom 16. Mai 1834 belegt (Schwarz 2009). Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass es sich bei dem auf der Adressseite erwähnten Brief Humboldts um dieses Empfehlungsschreiben handelt.
