Auszug aus einem Schreiben Sir William Hooker’s an den Geheimerath Bunsen. Kew. 4ten December 1849:

In the matter of M r. Hannemann, your Excellency will see at once that Humboldt’s testi-mony is a host in itself and therefore I shall „stretch a point“ to make an opening for him in the spring: — earlier than the month of May however I could not with propriety. But if that time will suit M r. Hanne- mann and if he will inform me so, I will take care he shall be then admitted.

Wenn auch Hooker erst fur für das Fruhjahr Frühjahr eine bestimmte Anstellung dem Herrn Hannemann verheissen hat, so ist doch wohl, wegen der freundlichen Art, wie er die Sache aufgenommen zu hoffen, dass er ihn früher an Andere empfehlen wird.

Ihre Wünsche, theurer Freund, werden also wohl erfullt erfüllt werden.

Ich habe eben der geogr geographischen Gesellschaft durch Ritter Briefe des jungen Hooker mitgetheilt vgl. Humboldts Schreiben an Ritter, Potsdam, Sonntag, [vor 5. Januar 1850], Humboldt 2010, 108–109. ( Jul. Julius 1849) nach denen er tief in Thibet eingedrungen ist, dort viele Pflanzen sammlet, aber in Hoch-ebenen 15000 Fuss lebt, eine Hohe Höhe in der er seiner Constitution nach, immer an Kopfweh leidet.
